Activities You For Your Day Off
Being a domestic helper is no easy job. You take care of the whole family, make sure that a well-cooked meal is prepared. The house is clean, kids are taken care of, and clothes are washed. This job takes a lot of effort, and it’s only for people who are hard-working and consistent.
When you’re used to working, sometimes having a day off will be kind of uncomfortable because you don’t know how to spend it. The tendency is to rest or sleep for the whole day or spend your time on social media catching up with what you missed.
There’s no right formula on how you spend this day. It’s all up to you and how you want to refresh and rejuvenate yourself after weeks of working. But if you wish to have more ideas on how you can spend a rest day wisely, here are some things you can do:
- Schedule a video call with your family
This is the perfect time to catch up with them. During your working days, your calls are limited, and sometimes, after work, you tend to sleep and rest because it has been a tiring day. Now, if you are on a rest day, spend time with your family.
What you can do is call them during lunchtime or breakfast, and then the family can share a meal. You can prepare your food and then eat with them (virtually). But hey! The important thing is you’re able to spend time together.
Now is the perfect time to ask how they’ve been, any updates that are happening in their lives. Remember that to keep your children close or your family close, communicating with them is critical. So make sure you make time for this.
2. Meet-up with some of your friends
Ask your employer if you’ll be allowed to go out. You can agree with a specific time and tell them what time they can expect you to go back. Being far from family is a challenge, and it helps you when you have people you can talk to. Schedule a time with your friends who are also on day-off and eat out or explore some places in Hong Kong.
3. Go to church
Filipinos are well-known for their faith. A lot of Domestic Helpers would say that their faith helped them get through challenges. Going to church affects them emotionally and spiritually. It might help you, especially as being in a foreign place can make you lonely.
4. Go around some touristic places in Hong Kong.
You are working far from your family, but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy and have fun. During your rest day, you can use it for going to places you’ve never been to for you to have a feel of what Hong Kong is. Here are some suggested places you can visit:
- Temple Street Night Market — if you want to look around for food, shop for bargains, this is the best place to be!
- Lan Kwai Fong — this is where you can go when you need to check out the trendiest restaurants or explore the street life in Hong Kong.
- Walk-in Kowloon Park — if you want to chill, then you can go here and hang out.
Your rest day is up to you. How you spend it is also your choice. The important thing is you know how you want to spend your time. Make sure that you’ll enjoy it, and you’ll be ready to work again in the next coming weeks.
